Using A Pregnancy Calendar

Using A Pregnancy Calendar
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kevin_Boylan]Kevin Boylan

Many people believe that their pregnancy calendar starts on their date of conception. They are wrong! The first week of your pregnancy is actually 1-2 weeks before conception. This is due to the way that pregnancy dates are calculated.

The first day of week one of your pregnancy is actually calculated as the first day of your period prior to conception. The conception date is estimated to be two weeks after this date, therefore, you could are pregnant for two weeks before you actually conceive. This is how the pregnancy duration is estimated at 40 weeks instead of 38 weeks.

Pregnancy progresses are a fast rate, with the embryo and fetus developing faster than at any other stage of life. Each week there are new developments and milestones in your baby's' development. Your fertilized egg will quickly split into 2 cells, then 4, then 8 and so on. Soon it becomes a mass of billions of cells which eventually make your baby.

As your pregnancy progresses there are week by week advancements in development, the heart starts beating, the baby grows in size, the cerebellum starts forming during week 8 and by week 9 you can determine whether you are having a boy or girl. The baby becomes more active after week 9. The muscle structure varies in each baby and the baby starts to show eccentricity by week 11. This is a very important and interesting stage of growth in a child when you analyze pregnancy week by week development.

Of course, one of the most important aspects of a pregnancy calendar is that it helps define your estimated due date and that is something you can really look forward to.

Pregnancy Weight Gain - The Mystery Solved

Pregnancy Weight Gain - The Mystery Solved
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Beverley_Brooke]Beverley Brooke

It is important that you remember that weight gain is a normal and healthy part of pregnancy. You have to gain weight in order to provide a healthy and comfortable home for the child that you will be nurturing for the next nine months.

Most women want to know what the ideal weight is during pregnancy. Honestly, there is no one answer. Weight gain will vary from woman to woman. There is no one 'ideal' weight during pregnancy, just like there is no one 'ideal' weight that is just right for al women.

That said there are certain guidelines that you can follow to ensure that the weight you gain during pregnancy is healthy.

Most physicians will recommend the following weight gain:

If you are normal weight before getting pregnant you should expect to gain between 25 and 35 pounds throughout your pregnancy.

If you are underweight prior to pregnancy you will need to gain more weight, typically between 28 and 40 pounds during your pregnancy. Your healthcare provider will be able to provide you with more specific guidelines.

If you are overweight when you become pregnant you will only need to gain between 15 and 25 pounds during your pregnancy.

Keep in mind that if you are carrying multiples (twins or more) you will typically be asked to gain even more weight, 45 pounds or more, depending on how many babies you are carrying.

When you become pregnant it is important that you avoid dieting. So, for purposes of this book we want to emphasize that it is vital that you eat healthily during your pregnancy, not diet. A healthy diet that is composed of food from each of the four food groups will help ensure that you gain the right amount of weight during your pregnancy, making it easier to shed pounds after you give birth.

Pregnancy Testing - When to Do It?

Pregnancy Testing - When to Do It?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Christoph_Puetz]Christoph Puetz

When trying to conceive and to have a baby it all starts with a pregnancy test. Well, not really, but we leave the romantic part out of this discussion as this is not really something for the public. The timing of when to take a pregnancy test partially depends on how soon you are trying to find out if you are pregnant or not. Different pregnancy tests require different timing.

In general there are two basic types of pregnancy tests available nowadays. The two different kinds of pregnancy tests do either test your urine or your blood. Both tests look for the pregnancy hormone in your body that is only present if you are pregnant. The “pregnancy” hormone is referred to as 'human chorionic gonadotropin', or “hCG”. Modern blood tests can detect hCG already 6 to 8 days after having made love and have ovulated. Urine based pregnancy tests can detect the presence of the pregnancy hormone in your body about 14 days after ovulation.

Pregnancy tests using your blood to determine if you are pregnant need to be done under medical control – usually at your OB. Pregnancy tests that test for the pregnancy hormone in your urine are home-based tests. Home pregnancy tests are convenient, inexpensive and are discreet. A urine based pregnancy test should be done using in the early morning. The morning urine shows the strongest concentration of the pregnancy hormone. A pregnancy test using your blood is not tight to a certain time of the day to deliver better results.

Urine based pregnancy tests are often used too early and the test results are not clear enough. Follow-up testing is required to be certain. As pregnancy tests are not cheap this is unfortunate for the woman doing the test, but very fortunate for the manufacturers of these tests. Waiting an additional before taking the first test is difficult – especially if you are trying to conceive for quite a while.

If you feel you are pregnant but the home pregnancy test shows a negative test result, it is recommended to wait at least 24-48 hours before repeating such a test. Sometimes it is also just the brand that is being used. Different tests used at the same time sometimes show more clear results.

Being pregnant is a wonderful experience. Getting confirmation about being pregnant can be frustrating or exciting. Having enough patience and faith will help a woman to get through the “endless” waiting period before it makes sense taking a pregnancy test.

Pregnancy for Health

Pregnancy for Health
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Haidi_Haiza]Haidi Haiza

Any woman who chooses to pregnant must know about pregnancy for health. Pregnancy is a time when you should not only be thinking about your own health, but the health of your unborn child.

Here are some quick and easy menu plan ideas for dinners during pregnancy. Avoiding high fat and red meats during pregnancy is always a healthy decision but eggs, milk, fish and poultry are lean options. Pregnancy protein requirements are 80 grams a day for optimal health. To make sure this process happens properly eating complete proteins is necessary during pregnancy. Because prenatal vitamins and mineral supplements do not provide protein it is worth tracking how much you are eating each day during pregnancy. Protein is a structural element of your body and your baby body. Protein is used to build the baby tissues, build a healthy placenta and create red blood cells.
Eating one a day during pregnancy can be a great way to make sure you get ample protein, iron and calcium in your diet.

Here are some tips for increasing the nutrition of your lunches, and ideas for quick and healthy lunches to add to your menu plan during pregnancy. Iron is one of the most important components of proper health during pregnancy. Folic acid is a water-soluble vitamin in the B vitamin complex that is vital during pregnancy for the health of your baby. See the daily and weekly checklist for healthy eating during pregnancy.

It is important to stay hydrated and replace these lost fluids to maintain a healthy pregnancy. One of the essential building blocks for life is also one of the essential parts of a healthy pregnancy diet. Taking adequate amounts of calcium and magnesium during pregnancy can decrease your risk of osteoporosis later in life, optimize pregnancy blood pressure levels and increase your pain tolerance threshold, making for a more comfortable delivery.

I have searched through the masses of pregnancy related articles and picked the best information to encourage, help and support you the nine months you are expecting. Information and current news about pregnancy for health can be find at [http://www.pregnancy4health.info/]pregnancy for health.

Can Essential Oils Help Pregnant Women With Morning Sickness?

Can Essential Oils Help Pregnant Women With Morning Sickness?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Linda_Lee_Smith]Linda Lee Smith

Morning sickness occurs in 50 to 80% of pregnant women. Most cases of pregnancy morning sickness occur between the 4th and 6th week of pregnancy and lasts until the 14th to 16th week. Even though it is called "morning sickness," this problem can actually occur any time of the day or night. Unfortunately, some women will experience morning sickness all throughout their pregnancy.

No one knows for sure what causes this ailment but the theories that currently exist say that a combination of rapid changes occurring in the pregnant woman's body plays a big part in the queasiness. It would appear that the rapid increase in hCG (the pregnancy hormone) and estrogen play a part in the appearance of morning sickness. Once hCG raises to a certain level the symptoms begin. Many women then start feeling relief around the time that the levels of hCG start to decline in their system.

Another change that occurs during pregnancy is a heightened sense of taste and smell. Smells and tastes that once were appealing take on a whole new effect and may become very unappealing and may lead to an untimely run for the bathroom to throw up. It is thought that the increase of estrogen is responsible for this change.

It is also thought that women who have a weak stomach or are prone to throwing up (due to stress, illness, birth control pills, etc) can experience pregnancy morning sickness more often and severely than women who have an "iron stomach".

Can Essential Oils Help Reduce the Effects of Morning Sickness?

There is really no reason why pregnant women cannot use essential oils for common problems like morning sickness. Essential oils do not act like pharmaceutical drugs. Physicians in the past have prescribed pharmaceutical drugs with disastrous results. One only has to remember in the 1960's when over 10,000 babies were born primarily in Europe and Africa with severe birth defects because their mothers took the drug thalidimide to treat morning sickness. Drugs of any kind can be dangerous to the developing fetus especially in the first trimester. Essential oils however are nature's medicines and do not have the same effects as these drugs. With that said, even nature's medicines taken in excess can be harmful both to the developing fetus and to the mother.

Suggested Essential Oils for Morning Sickness

Ginger, peppermint, spearmint

Dilute 50-50 and massage 1-3 drops behind each ear and over the navel 2-3 times hourly

Inhale the oil directly 4-6 times hourly as needed

Or place one drop on the tongue.

Another option is to have the oil beside the bed and before moving the head, reach for the oil and begin inhaling. Movement is often the trigger for morning sickness.

Secrets To Reduce Early Pregnancy Loss

Secrets To Reduce Early Pregnancy Loss
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tehmina_Mazher]Tehmina Mazher

Even if you have experienced pregnancy loss in the past, don't worry, you will have a good chance for a successful pregnancy. Make sure that you feel comfortable with your physician during your upcoming pregnancy. When you've experienced pregnancy loss, it's even more important that you are under the care of a competent and compassionate physician.

You may be able to improve your chances of having a successful pregnancy by taking certain positive actions, such as these:

• Undergo a complete medical workup before you try to get pregnant again. Work with your doctor to evaluate risk factors and causes of your past pregnancy loss.

• Take the prenatal vitamins and any other medication that have been prescribed by your doctor.

• Keep up a healthy lifestyle by eating sensible foods, exercising, and avoiding alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs.

• Plan your pregnancy, follow your menstrual cycle, and know when you are ovulating.

• If you think that you might be pregnant, see your doctor right away for an early diagnosis and evaluation.

• Remind your doctor of your past losses, and share your concerns and questions.

• Follow your doctor's orders, and be sure that he or she monitors your health and the pregnancy very closely.

This is true even if the cause of the past loss cannot be found. Your future pregnancy will most likely demand special care, close monitoring, and sometimes medication. Most experts agree that if you successfully reach 13 weeks with a normal-appearing fetus and heartbeat on ultrasound, you will very likely go on to have a normal pregnancy.
